As we all know, Covid-19 has brought a new way of living our lives here in the UK since it arrived in early 2020.  The things we previously took for granted, such as spending time with loved ones, socialising with friends and eating out, have all been changed beyond recognition.  This does not mean though that we can’t find ways of living our lives in a different way and continue to enjoy ourselves but in a safer environment.  That is why we, at Elite Greenhouses, were delighted to help and work with a new inventive scheme at Media City in Salford where they have developed a project to create covid secure dining and relaxation spaces using garden buildings.

What is Box on The Docks?

Box on the Docks is a new scheme designed to support the restaurants and bars in and around the Media City complex at Salford Quays.  Media City is a vibrant space which has seen lots of development over the last 10 years including the relocation of part of the BBC and ITV studios along with apartment blocks, office spaces and hotels.  As Covid-19 began to spread into the UK, to help support the restaurants and bars in this area, a scheme was developed to create a series of garden buildings, placed around the main Media City complex, and, working with the surrounding restaurants and local artists, the idea was to develop a welcoming and friendly private space, which customers could book for their own use, to enjoy drinks and food in an environment that was not only secure in terms of controlling the spread of the coronavirus, but also fun, relaxing and where people would want to continue to socialise and enjoy their space.

But it’s a Greenhouse!!!

Box on the Docks approached us at Elite Greenhouses to help provide a welcoming, large social space, which could be personalised by local artists to create a dining space that was something really special.  We chose the Titan Range of Aluminium Greenhouses as they offer a structure which is not only super strong, in fact probably the strongest in the UK, therefore are robust for any weather thrown at it, but also for people regularly entering and leaving the greenhouse.  The Titan range also offers a feeling of enormous space once sat inside.  The high eaves height and wide opening double doors make fitting a dining table for 6 people inside no problems at all with plenty of room to stretch out and relax.  The full length glazing provides a huge canvas for the local artists chosen to paint the glass and make these greenhouse completely individual and cozy at the same time.  With large wide opening roof vents and louvres too, the lucky guests who had booked one of the greenhouses for drinks or food are presented with an environment which is light and airy.

More than Just Tomatos

The Box on The Docks Scheme has been developed as a working partnership with the surrounding bars and restaurants at Media City.  From enjoying pub food from The Dockyard, to hanging kebabs by The Botanist, to sampling craft beers and theatrical cocktails from The Alchemist to award winning coffee by Grindsmith, all of which can be enjoyed from the comfort of your chair and served to your table inside an Elite Greenhouse!!!

A Greenhouse | More than just a growing space

Nobody knows right now what the future holds or what the impact will be on our lives as we come to live with the coronavirus.  What this has shown us though is that the British spirit shines through and we remain a nation of invention.  Who would have thought 12 months ago that people would be enjoying the finest wines and fine dining food, served to their table, surrounded with friends, sat inside an Elite Greenhouse?

Our greenhouses are such a versatile space that really, the limits of what you can do is simply your imagination.  Our Titan range is built to withstand anything the UK weather can throw at it, and all of our models come with our 10 year guarantee so that you know that what you buy is going to last and stand the test of time.

So, the next time you are inside your Elite Greenhouse and you are about to take a well earned sip of that hot tea from your flask, or a quick bite of that homemade sponge cake or biscuits that your grand daughter made for you at school, you can smile and think that somewhere, out there, someone else is doing the same too.  But in some people’s cases, they might be tucking into something a bit more substantial than a chocolate digestive!!!!
